Several years back, I did not give much attention in the importance of product types people buy online when I started in product marketing through the internet.
Thinking (its more of a hunch actually) that I have a real winner of a product and that people will be scrambling to buy it, I blindly step ahead on my money making ideas. I started my online campaign immediately. I began planning my internet marketing strategies, identify market types, building a website, write marketing articles, making product reviews, doing press releases, email marketing and offering bonuses.
But after going through all the hard work and pains, I faced the painful truth. I have no market for my product. There are literally no online business opportunities. People are simply not interested to buy what I am offering even improve my headline writing. Confronted with this sad reality, I sat on my chair, took a deep breath and started asking myself. What went wrong? Is my product strategy wrong? Is my email marketing campaign not effective? Is my website not attractive? Are my articles and product reviews awfully written? Is my headline writing not interesting enough? What about my bonuses? What have I missed?
Then it hit me. I never paid much importance on the product types those people want to buy online. I literally ignored this one. This is one very important aspect that will definitely improve my online conversion.
It is wise to know the reasons behind why people buy or don’t buy a product. Their answers may vary. But generally, people do not buy because they want to own a certain product or service. Rather, people buy because of the benefits they will receive as a result of owning that product or service.
So, what are the types of products that people want to buy and spend their hard earned money online?
Here are the 5 product types.
1. Products that save money or make profit
With the present global economic condition, people desire products or services that will give them business opportunity, help them save money or earn extra income online. They go for money making ideas especially on home based business. They need something in return for their efforts and hard work. And the easier they can get it, the better. People will invest in various types of products or services to earn cash. Their primary intention is to increase their profitability and the amount and value of their assets. Those additional cash will help them defray their monthly bills, have extra savings and allow them to enjoy a little luxury.
2. Products that help people learn or gain self improvement
Considered as one of the easiest niches to enter. People are always looking for something that will teach them something new and increase their effectiveness. They want and need to improve. They like to be able to do things more efficiently. They will invest money and time in self-improvement materials and education. This is why “how to” stuffs are a favorite.
3. Products that entertain
People will never refuse a serving of the latest scoops on hot celebrities. They want to hear news of their favorite movie actors and movie actresses. They love to watch movie trailers, movie clips or movie soundtracks. They even watch music videos online and do music downloads. Even bollywood movies are of interest to people nowadays. And of course, who would want to miss out news on sports and their sport heroes? Boxing, soccer, golf, basketball … you name it.
4. Products that promotes healthy life and comfort
Living comfortably is what people want. They want to rid of those pains and aches. They need products that will help them improve their physical well being. Things like … methods on safe weight loss, slimming or dieting. They are ready to buy products that will help improve eye sight, skin care, regain youthfulness or even enhance sexual drives. You got products on these?
5. Products that save time and effort
We all want methods of doing things easier. People love getting things done in a jiffy. Like for example, instead of attending school for I.T. or computer engineering lessons and spend months and thousands of dollars in studying, people may opt to buy an e-book on how to clean a laptop keyboard or how to make computer programs.
What about your products or services? Do they somehow make a person’s job, or a business’ way of doing things easier or more efficient? Or let's say, you can make an e-book on home remodeling that provide information to people about patio string lights, know where to buy them, learn the type of outdoor string lighting that is best for their garden, etc. You can make it available to your customers for a reasonable price. You could also create a software that will save your customer hours of work and teach them to do it more efficiently.
